Colne Engaine is a village with a thriving community situated just north of the River Colne and approximately ten miles north-west of Colchester on the Essex/Suffolk border. The village takes its name from the river, and the Engaine family, who were the principal family of the village between 1279 and 1367 and has recently from the Essex Village Special Award in The Times.
